1. Forgotten Password for Student Number username
Note : eStudent has its own Password for access using the Student Number, so the following answer does not apply to eStudent.
Systems that use Student Number as the Username (eg myMQ) will lock out your access for a period of time after 5 unsuccessful log in attempts.
To assist you through the change over period, you can link to a Summary Table containing guidelines to which Username and Passwords are needed to access each system.

2. How do I forward myMQ email in the Gmail web client?
Please note: each student is responsible for the information sent to a non-Macquarie account and for managing mailbox size to ensure that their account remains active.
For forwards to a single address:
- Log in to your mail account.
- Click Settings at the top of any mail page.
- Click Forwarding and POP along the top of the Mail Settings box.
- Enter the email address to which you'd like your messages forwarded.
- Select the action you'd like your messages to take from the drop-down menu. You can choose to keep your copy of the message in your inbox, or you can send it automatically to All Mail or Trash.
- Click Save Changes
For forwards to multiple address:
- Log in to your mail account.
- Click Settings at the top of any mail page.
- Click Filters along the top of the Mail Setting
- Enter your own email in the TO address and click next
- Enter the email address to which you'd like your messages forwarded,
- repeat the steps for each forward account.
- Click Save Changes
Tip: You can also forward only some of your mail by creating a filter!
* Please ensure to test that your Email Forward has been set up and is functioning correctly by sending an email to your......@students.mq.edu.au account. Check that the email arrives at your nominated email forward account.
3. What is the Username and Password for MyMQ portal?
MyMQ is Macquarie University's Student Portal. About myMQ
Your myMQ username is your Student Number.
To retrieve your initial password, your email address and to login, you will need to select "First Time Login In"
The portal has this link of the log in page. On your first log in you will change to the password of your choice.
Get your MQID.
New students will receive this information in a letter after their enrolment.
4. Which browsers are supported for myMQ?
The latest versions of Internet Explorer 7 and Firefox 2.0 are supported and have resolved some minor issues previously experienced with the myMQ portal. (student and staff)
The previous versions are supported, however the latest versions which are available as a free download are highly recommended and are take minimal effort to update. Safari 2.0.4 and Opera 9.01 have been tested with MacOS X 10.4.8
5. How can I make best use of myMQ?
* Start to use it daily.
* Make it your Home Page, or add it to your Favourites.
* Keep up to date with the latest news and events, University and Worldwide.
* Regularly access your email; it is a channel that the University will use for official communications with you.
* Academic staff will be using the email to send you information.
* You can forward your myMQ student email (Gmail) to another account; but keep that forwarding information current, it is your responsibility.
* Link into the various resources based on your individual unit codes.
* Access your exam timetable.
* Assign a strong password, change it regularly or if you suspect that it has become known by another person. It will sync all your systems passwords that use Student Number as the Username.
6. What Security Issues do I need to be concerned with when using the myMQ Portal?
Using the myMQ portal requires you to Log In to gain access, it is equally important to Log Off from the system when you end you session on the computer, there is an automatic log off triggered by a 120 minute Idle time limit with your SSO session.
Privacy Concerns with Shared Computers
For User who access the portal and web mail function on computers that are shared with other users, logging out and clearing browser information is critical, to fully ensure your privacy, it is important to log out and clear the private data information in the browser. To clear data in IE, (Tools, Delete Browsing History) on Firefox (Tools, Clear Private Data)
7. What is Password Self Service?
The Portal has a function to allow you to set up 3 secret answers to questions. The answers that you provide should be difficult for others to guess and if answered correctly will allow you to log on after resetting to a new password. The secret answers are not viewable by the Help Desk staff. There is provision for 3 attempts to enter correct answers, otherwise your account will be locked and can only be re activated by the Help Desk staff. 8. What is the recommended best practise for myMQ passwords?
Password Policies are not uniform across the University, the minimum password policies set by some systems are not considered very strong. Our recommendation is that regardless of the minimum enforced policy, you should adopt a best practise of at least 8 characters in length, that contains at least 1 number and 1 upper case character.
9. Using Internet Explorer to browse myMQ
The minimum requirements for browsing myMQ are Internet Explorer 5 or later or Netscape 6 or later (or other recent Mozilla browser).
You also must have Cookies, JavaScript and SSL enabled.
Instructions for Internet Explorer 5 and above:
To enable "cookies":
- Click the "Tools" menu.
- Select "Internet Options."
- Click the "Security" tab.
- Make sure that the "Internet" zone is selected.
- Click on the "Custom Level" Button.
- Scroll down to the "Cookies" section.
- Under "Allow per-session cookies" make sure "Enable" is selected.
To enable JavaScript:
- Click the "Tools" menu.
- Select "Internet Options."
- Click the "Security" tab.
- Make sure that the "Internet" zone is selected.
- Click on the "Custom Level" Button.
- Scroll down to the "Scripting" section.
- Under "Active Scripting" make sure "Enable" is selected.
To enable SSL:
- Click the "Tools" menu.
- Select "Internet Options."
- Click the "Advanced" tab.
- Scroll down to the "Security" section.
- Make sure that both "SSL 2.0" and "SSL 3.0" are checked (others might be checked as well; don't change any others).
10. Using Netscape to browse myMQ
The minimum requirements for browsing myMQ are Internet Explorer 5 or later or Netscape 6 or later (or other recent Mozilla browser).
You also must have Cookies, JavaScript and SSL enabled.
Instructions for Netscape 6 and above:
**To enable "cookies":
- Click the "Edit" menu.
- Select "Preferences."
- Select "Advanced."
- Either "Accept all cookies" or "Accept only cookies that get sent back to the originating server" should be checked.
**To enable JavaScript:
- Click the "Edit" menu.
- Select "Preferences."
- Select "Advanced."
- "Enable JavaScript" should be checked.
**To enable SSL:
- Click on the "Tasks" menu.
- Select "Privacy and Security."
- Select "Security Manager."
- Choose "Advanced."
- Choose "Options."
- Make sure: "Enable SSL version 2" "Enable SSL version 3" and "Enable TLS" are all checked.
