Project
Objective
To reduce network downtime by reducing the scheduled downtime required for preventative maintenance.
Project
Description
An Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) protects computers in the computer room against power fluctuations, power surges and brownouts. Without a well functioning UPS, even sub second interruptions to power can be catastrophic (such as the incident on 22 December 06 that resulted in most systems being unavailable for 5 days.) The UPS must be maintained once a quarter and this requires ALL systems to be turned off, resulting in a total outage of all computer services for a period of 5 – 6 hours. The purchase of a second UPS means that one can remain in operation whilst the other is being maintained, eliminating the need for the total system outage.
Key Outputs
- Second UPS installed, documented and under maintenance contract.
- Updated “Downtime Schedule” to remove requirements for downtime for UPS maintenance.
