Applying for a user account on ITS servers

Before you continue please be familiar with INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY CONDITIONS OF USE RULES.

This service relates to System/User Account Applications for IT Services-supported computer systems. For access to other systems (eg. Divisional systems), or if you are unsure of your requirements, please contact your supervisor or Local/Divisional IT Department.

Features

  • Controlled access and maintenance by IT Departments responsible for systems (either local/divisional IT or MQ IT Services where appropriate).

  • Access to University wide systems for Macquarie University students and staff

  • Access to Division/Office systems for authorised users where system is necessary for job role.

Support

This service is provided Monday - Friday, 8am - 5pm

This services is not provided Weekends and Public Holidays.

Please refer to the Division/Office/Affiliate Help Desk listing to determine the appropriate point of contact for account administration for applications or systems not supported by MQ IT Services, eg. Local/Divisional applications/systems.

Services Provided To

This service is available to all Macquarie University Staff and students. The terms "Staff" and "Student" refer to staff and students of Macquarie University. Such staff and students must possess a Macquarie University staff or student card upon request.

Important : All staff and students must be familiar with the adhere to the IT Policies and Rules governing the use of Macquarie computing/communications facilities.

Service Charges and Fees

There are no charges associated with this service.

Staff

  1. Discuss your System/User Account options with either your Supervisor or Technical Officer. This ensures you access the right system for your area.
  2. Choose the pertinent Staff User Account Type (below).
  3. Click on the Application Form for that Type of access and follow the form's instructions.

Dialups & Laurel Note 1: This Account Type is also available for University College staff (i.e. from Dunmore Lang and Sir Robert Menzies). In such cases, the User Account Application form must be signed/authorised by that college’s Principal.

Note 2: IT Services and Technical Officers jointly audit User Accounts every academic year.

Students
Post Graduate and Under Graduate Students

Issued with 2 (two) User Accounts upon enrolment: 1xUnix User Account 1xNovell User Account.

The User Account are created as part of the enrolment process. Students will receive notification of their User Account (ID/Name) and Password via mail.

  • First Semester User Accounts will be closed in the third week of that semester.
  • Second Semester User Accounts will be closed at the end of enrolments in the following year.
  • Those Students who have not enrolled will have their User Accounts disabled at the end of the enrolment period.

Important: Student UNIX and Novell User Accounts are designed to provide them with 'basic essentials'. They should not be confused with user accounts provided by their college / division.

the Divisional Helpdesk for your field of study should be your initial contact if you have any queries regarding this access. These are listed in the Division/Office/Affiliate Help Desk page.

Students With Disabilities

On top of standard student access (above), students with a disability will be also provided with dial-up access.
