ITS Development Strategy
In June 2004, the management and staff of IT Services commenced a programme for organisational development – the programme considered each of the traditional factors of people, process and culture. There were two primary needs for this change:
To Meet the Requirements of the University
Over the years, the role of IT Services has gradually diluted to the point where today we would provide much less than 50% of the IT advice and support required by the University. Divisions and Offices have begun to source their IT expertise in other ways and many have established their own substantial IT teams.
The University recognises the weakness of this approach – it is both expensive and fragmented and provides sub-optimal service to the students, staff and stakeholders. The University requires ITS to play a more pivotal, though not exclusive role in providing IT to the extended University community.
To Meet the Requirements of ITS Staff
Whilst recognising that staff are employed to deliver the business requirements of the University, we must also recognise that to attract and retain good people, we must understand and address the requirements of staff.
The outcome of the exercise was the IT Services Development Strategy 2005 – 2007.
